Monica Vermeulen chosen as Greater Spring Lake Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year

The Board of Trustees of The Ashley Lauren Foundation is proud to announce that our Founder/CEO, Monica Vermeulen, has been chosen as the 2017 Greater Spring Lake Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year because of her tireless efforts in helping children suffering from cancer. In addition, the Greater Spring Lake Chamber of Commerce will be sharing the proceeds of this year’s Citizen of the Year Dinner with The Ashley Lauren Foundation.

We hope to see you at the event which will be held at the beautiful Essex & Sussex in Spring Lake. This is a great opportunity to be able to see the inside of this incredible, historical building along with being part of making a difference in the lives of the children we assist.

The beauty of the historical Essex & Sussex in Spring Lake dates back to 1914. The exquisite building enriched with history is closed to the public. This is a rare opportunity to see the grand building. A private tour of the Essex & Sussex will be given directly after the event.

Join us at the Essex & Sussex on Wednesday, November 8th at 6:00 pm for the 2017 Spring Lake Citizen of the Year Dinner as we honor Monica. Citizen of the Year tickets are $100. “You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown” Musical to Benefit Kids with Cancer

Fifty years ago, in 1967, the musical You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown opened off Broadway. Now it is coming to Greenbriar II in Brick as a fundraiser for The Ashley Lauren Foundation, a Spring Lake non-profit that provides Hope and Help for Children with Cancer in New Jersey through financial, material and emotional support along with many programs for the children.

This multi-generational production is being directed by Monica Vermeulen (Brick) who is also the Founder/CEO of The Ashley Lauren Foundation. Musical Direction is by Norman “Doc” Hart (Brick). Reuniting after playing opposite each other in the same roles thirty years ago are Windber R. Brandt (Toms River) as Charlie Brown and Renee S. Tompkins (Wall Township) as Lucy Van Pelt. Rounding out the cast is Corey Crawford (Beachwood), as Linus, Maria D’Amato (Long Branch) as Sally Brown; Windber’s son, Windber R. Brandt (Ocean Gate), as Schroeder; and Madison Starr Wicker (Brick) as Snoopy.

There will be two performances at Greenbriar II Clubhouse, located at 1 Greenbriar Boulevard, Brick, NJ 08724 on Saturday, October 14 at 7:00 PM and Sunday, October 15 at 3:00 PM. Inaugural Run for Hope to Benefit The Ashley Lauren Foundation

Mark your calendars for the ultimate Sunday Funday, all while showing your support for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Brielle Ale House is hosting its inaugural Run for Hope 5K & Fun Run to benefit The Ashley Lauren Foundation, a nonprofit based out of Spring Lake and serving all of New Jersey, which provides financial assistance, emotional support and many other programs to children and families suffering from the hardships of pediatric cancer, on Sunday, September 24, 2017.

All proceeds from this event will go to The Ashley Lauren Foundation. Participants will receive a t-shirt, a closed scenic course throughout Brielle, and access to an after party with their registration. After the race, there will be a ton of free family fun for participants at Brielle Ale House that includes face painting and bounce houses, a barbecue, drink tickets, a push-up/plank challenge, music, gift basket raffles, 50/50 and so much more!

Registration is from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Brielle Ale House, located at 601 Union Lane in Brielle; the 5K starts at 10:30 a.m. and the 1-Mile Walk/Fun Run (one-mile) at 10:45 a.m. (strollers welcome). The after party begins at 11:30 a.m. The cost is $35 per person, $20 for 12 and under, and kids 4 and under are FREE. Online registration ends September 21st, you must register by September 7th to be guaranteed a t-shirt.

The Ashley Lauren Foundation’s 6th Annual Butterfly Ball a Success

On February 25, 2017, over 350 guests gathered at the Ocean Place Resort and Spa to enjoy The Ashley Lauren Foundation’s much anticipated 6th Annual Butterfly Ball “DANCING FOR OUR STARS” and raise funding and awareness for children suffering from cancer. Investors Bank was this year’s honoree.

Monica Vermeulen, Founder/CEO stated, “We are so grateful to all of our sponsors, auction donors, entertainers and guests for their incredible support. Our new and exciting dance competition was enjoyed by everyone in attendance. We are so grateful to our dancers who worked many hours rehearsing and raising funds for our Ashley Lauren kids. The dancers put on an amazing performance. Our dancers included Carol Stillwell, President/CEO of Stillwell-Hansen Inc. who did a beautiful waltz which transitioned into rock and roll with Joe Hasson of Fred Astaire Dance Studio of Red Bank.; Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders Deputy Director Serena DiMaso who did an amazing salsa with Andre Gosselin also from Fred Astaire; Monmouth County Freeholder Tom Arnone who did a high energy and exciting disco with Ashley Lauren Vermeulen and Tom Corley President/CPA of Cerefice & Co. and published author who did a fun hip-hop dance with Ashley Lauren Vermeulen. The winner of both the People’s Choice Award and the Judge’s Award was Carol Stillwell. We are also very grateful to our judges, Joe Leone, Tom Hayes, Anthony LaGruth and Ron Wollner.”

The goal of The Ashley Lauren Foundation is to ease the journey when pediatric cancer is diagnosed by providing direct financial assistance (household bills, medications not paid through medical insurance, traveling expenses to and from hospitals, funeral expenses, etc.); material assistance (food, clothing, household items); emotional support (for the entire family); seasonal parties for the children and their families; advocacy; “Making Dreams Come True” Program; Birthday Brigade (gifts, cake, balloons delivered personally to each child); special outings; hospital parties; holiday gifts for the children and anything else that is needed to make their lives easier and bring smiles to their faces.

The Ashley Lauren Foundation’s 6th Annual Butterfly Ball

On Saturday, February 25, 2017 beginning at 6:00 pm at the Ocean Place Resort and Spa in Long Branch, guests will gather for The Ashley Lauren Foundation’s much anticipated 6th Annual Butterfly Ball “DANCING FOR OUR STARS.”

This fun-filled event provides an opportunity for attendees to enjoy an evening of fine food, drink and entertainment while raising funds for and increasing awareness of The Ashley Lauren Foundation’s mission of providing Hope & Help for Children with Cancer in NJ. Brian Kirk and the Jirks will provide the music and guests will be able to bid on many fun and unique auction items.

Monica Vermeulen, Founder/CEO stated, “This is an evening not to be missed. We have many exciting things planned for the Ball. A new and exciting component will be our ‘DANCING FOR OUR STARS competition, where our performers will be dancing to raise money for the ‘Stars’ of The Ashley Lauren Foundation – Our Children!

“Our dancers will be paired with professional dancers (Andre Gosselin of Fred Astaire Dance Studio of Red Bank and Ashley Lauren Vermeulen) and will have to earn the most votes pre-event and at the event to win the People’s Choice award. They will then be judged on performance ability at the event to win the Judges Award. It will be lots of fun cheering on your favorite dance couple along with cheering on our amazing Ashley Lauren Foundation children.”

The dancers that will be competing include Carol Stillwell, President/CEO of Stillwell-Hansen Inc.; Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders Deputy Director Serena DiMaso; Spring Lake Fire Company #1 Captain John Wall and Tom Corley, President/CPA of Cerefice & Co. and published author.
