The Ashley Lauren Foundation was founded by a woman with a passionate, focused vision of helping children in NJ who suffer from cancer - stemming from her own experiences with her daughter’s diagnosis of cancer. She was immediately joined by three others that shared in that same vision. Their first Board Meeting, held at a local diner, brought like-mindedness regarding the plans and goals for the future of the organization. Thus, The Ashley Lauren Foundation was born and became incorporated with the State of New Jersey on July 6, 2005.
Monica VermeulenFounder/CEO
A cancer survivor herself, Monica experienced, first hand, the pain involved in having a child with cancer. Her daughter, Ashley Lauren, was diagnosed with Wilms Tumor at the age of three. Having lived through the unexpected hardships of pediatric cancer, she realized how important the need for support was during this difficult time. Her passion is to reach out with hope and help to other families that are coping with the same difficulties.
Monica has been a Brick, NJ resident for over 32 years. She is married and has two children. Monica has a B.A. in Non-Profit Management (Focus-Pediatric Cancer) from The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey – graduating Summa Cum Laude/Program Distinction. She served as a former Alumni Representative on the Ocean County College Board of Trustees and is President of Phi Theta Kappa, Beta Chapter. Monica is also the Director/Choreographer of Kidz-4-Kidz, Vice-President of The Guild Theatreworks, Inc. and Vice-President of Jersey Shore United.
Thomas C. CorleyPresident and Treasurer
Tom is a CPA and President of Cerefice & Company, Rahway, NJ. Tom spent most of his career in tax and finance, beginning his tax career at Arthur Andersen. Prior to Cerefice, Tom headed the Finance Department, as CFO, of a publicly held company specializing in Homebuilding and Venture Capital investment. Tom was also a founder of McGuinness, Corley & Hodavance, a CPA firm specializing in large corporate tax compliance and consulting and prior to that held the position of Senior Tax Manager for ESSROC Materials Inc., one of the world’s largest Cement Manufacturers. He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, the New York State Society of CPAs, the New Jersey Society of CPAs, the Certified Financial Planning Board and is Certified by the Corporation for Long-Term Care. Tom holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from St. John’s University and a Master’s Degree in Taxation from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Tom is also the author of the book “Rich Habits” and “Rich Kids – How to Raise Our Children to be Happy and Successful in Life.” Tom and his wife Denise live with their three children in Freehold, New Jersey.
Carolyn WalkerSecretary
Carolyn Walker is currently the Secretary of the Board of Trustees, a life-long resident of New Jersey, currently resides in Brick, having grown up in Cranford and living in three other counties of the state. She is employed as a Trust Officer in the Estate Settlement Unit for Wachovia Trust in Toms River, NJ.

Carolyn graduated Magna Cum Laude from Georgian Court University with a BS in Business Administration having been a member of the Delta Mu Delta Business Honor Society as well as the Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society. She also is a graduate of Cannon Trust School and is a Certified Trust Financial Advisor. Carolyn is the proud mother of two daughters and four grandchildren. She is also a member of the Beta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Ocean County College.

Victoria AliTrustee/Fundraising Chair
Victoria Ali, is past Vice President and currently serving as a Board Trustee. She is a graduate of Monmouth University, resides in Red Bank and is employed at TD Ameritrade. She also is the owner of Elite Events LLC, a boutique event planning firm that caters to clientele in the Private, Corporate and Political space. She also volunteers her planning expertise to various charitable organizations.
Howard LevineTrustee
Howard is a Healthcare Information Technology Executive with over 20 years of experience in various technology roles. Mr. Levine holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Information System Services from Stockton University in New Jersey.

He has chosen to dedicate his free time to assist children and their families that are dealing with cancer. Howard is a resident of Marlboro, NJ where he lives with his family.

Lou RussoTrustee
Lou is the On-Air Radio Personality of 94.3 The Point’s Lou and Liz In The Morning show. He has been doing the Morning Show for over ten years. Lou and his wife Diane have been married for six years.
David DeDominicisTrustee
David DeDominicis, is originally a native of Pittsburgh and has now resided in Brick for over 20 years where he lives with the foundation of his life, his wife Grace and their 3 children—Matthew, Arianna and Joshua. As a father of a special needs child, David knows first-hand the struggles of children and their families dealing with impairment and illness. This gives him a strong desire to help other children and their families who are also affected.

David has been a sales management executive in the consumer products industry for over 25 years and is currently employed by The Northeast Group and covers the metro New York City market. David also dedicates his time to assist with fundraising for the Search Day Program helping autistic children and also with Challenger Athletics in Brick. He also takes pride that his 3 children have learned well and try to give back to children in need where they can. The apple does not fall far from the tree as his daughter Arianna is extremely involved with THON at Penn State University; the dance marathon that raises funds and awareness for pediatric cancer.

David’s dedication is also a very personal one. He was diagnosed with oral and neck cancer in 2010 and he knows that being alive today has given him the opportunity to make even a bigger difference in the lives of the children and families of The Ashley Lauren Foundation. Besides his own cancer battle, David lost his mother to cancer and dedicates all his efforts in her loving memory.

Nancy KolakowskiProgram Director/Family Liaison
Nancy Kolakowski‘s journey with The Ashley Lauren Foundation began as a volunteer in 2010. Immediately she knew The Ashley Lauren Foundation was her new home. Nancy’s passion is to provide The Ashley Lauren Foundation children and their families with as much hope, love and support possible.

Nancy has always had a passion for philanthropy and giving back as she managed corporate philanthropy initiatives for Bank of America and JPMorgan Chase. Her professional and personal volunteer experience includes event and program support for Susan G. Komen, Ronald McDonald House New York City, Monmouth County Family & Children’s Services and Special Olympics New Jersey.

Nancy currently resides in Brick, NJ. She is the proud aunt of six incredibly awesome nephews (Dylan, Brayden, Colin, Cameron, Austin and Jaxon) and the godmother to her beautiful cousin Ava, all of whom she adores. As a graduate of the Holistic Health Program at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, Nancy is a board certified health coach with a passion for health and wellness and loves to discover new recipes, cook and exercise.

Mary Spano Gleckner Family Liaison
Mary Spano retired from the family business in 2006 and put all her efforts into volunteering throughout Monmouth and Ocean Counties to discover where her strengths are needed most. She spent several years with the Red Cross as an Emergency Response Volunteer, a Disaster Volunteer and went on to teaching classes for Disaster Services and Health Services. Simultaneously she volunteered for JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes), CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate), Gala Committee for The FoodBank Monmouth and Ocean Counties, Collier Youth Services and has been a missionary for Swaziland Relief with annual trips to Africa since 2008. Six years ago Mary found her way to The Ashley Lauren Foundation, and has been involved in events, the Butterfly Ball and in 2012 joined as a Family Liaison. Mary loves the children and now found her home at ALF.
Nancy WendtFamily Liaison
Nancy found her way to ALF through Mary Spano Gleckner as a volunteer for the Foundation’s Butterfly Ball. It did not take long for her to become more involved in our ALF events, and she inquired as to whether she could join ALF in its mission of hope and help as a family liaison.

Nancy lives in Howell. She is a legal secretary with a prominent New Jersey law firm since graduating college. Known to most as a passionate and avid skier, she was involved with various group clubs, their boards and councils and the volunteer community at large.
